Make sure
that you are not unwittingly supporting abortion. People who
use the Pill or IUD are supporting it (see this
detailed article if you don't believe it). People
who give to the United Way or Planned Parenthood
are supporting it. People who refer pregnant
women to "crisis pregnancy centers"
without checking to ensure the centers aren't pro-abortion
are supporting it (ask them straight, "Could
you advise me to get an abortion?"; if they
answer "yes", it's the wrong place to
send anyone). People who don't consistently vote
against it in state and national elections are
supporting it.
Consider the many ways you can help
make a difference in the face of our nation. Support the
pro-life movement financially, with words of
encouragement and with a good word to your
family, friends, neighbors and co-workders. Let
them all know where you stand. Don't be ashamed
of it. Let it show with bumper stickers, T-shirts,
signs and your own humility, reverence and
attitude towards the sanctity of life.
Develop a mindset and theology that
permit you to act against it. Many people
believe that issues like abortion are not the
"core issues" they should invest their
time, energy and money in. Get over that thought.
The Word of God tells us we have a
sacred duty to protect the weak, which throughout
all time has included the unborn:
Keep yourself far from
a false matter; do not kill the innocent and
righteous. For I will not justify the wicked. Exodus
23:7
Thus says the LORD:
"Execute judgment and righteousness, and
deliver the plundered out of the hand of the
oppressor. Do no wrong and do no violence to
the stranger, the fatherless, or the widow,
nor shed innocent blood in this place.
Jeremiah 22:3
Many people believe that what
happens in government is no business of theirs.
They forget they have the distinct privilege and
duty to elect those very people into office, pray
for them and inform them of ways in which to make
the country a better country, safe even for the
unborn.
On a personal level, or on a
national level, the only proper response to
abortion is repentance. Daniel the
prophet of Israel was a devout man who ascended
to a high position in the government of Babylon,
because of his unswerving faithfulness to God.
Nevertheless, he realized how greatly his own
people Israel had sinned against God, which
brought severe judgment upon their nation in
which millions were killed and thousands who
remained alive were carried away in captivity to
Babylon; he was one such captive. Knowing God's
punishment was deserved by the whole nation, and
even though he himself was blameless and innocent
of these sins, he prayed in repentance for his
nation. Read

God calls us to repentance on the
basis of community. Joel the
prophet of Israel gives us one of the best models
of corporate repentance contained in the Bible.
These are the Lord's instructions to us in time
of grave national crisis, and the blessings He
promises if we truly turn to Him as a people (Joel
2:12-19 NKJV).
A
Call to Repentance
12 "Now,
therefore," says the LORD,
"Turn to Me with all your heart,
With fasting, with weeping, and with mourning."
13 So rend your heart, and not your
garments;
Return to the LORD your
God,
For He is gracious and merciful,
Slow to anger, and of great kindness;
And He relents from doing harm.
14 Who knows if He will turn and
relent,
And leave a blessing behind Him--
A
grain offering and a drink offering
For the LORD your
God?
15 Blow the trumpet in Zion,
Consecrate a fast,
Call a sacred assembly;
16 Gather the people,
Sanctify the congregation,
Assemble the elders,
Gather the children and nursing babes;
Let the bridegroom go out from his chamber,
And the bride from her dressing room.
17 Let the priests, who minister to the
LORD,
Weep between the porch and the altar;
Let them say, "Spare Your people, O LORD,
And do not give Your heritage to reproach,
That the nations should rule over them.
Why should they say among the peoples,
"Where is their God?"'
The Land Refreshed
18 Then the LORD will
be zealous for His land,
And pity His people.
19 The LORD will
answer and say to His people,
"Behold, I will send you grain and new
wine and oil,
And you will be satisfied by them;
I
will no longer make you a reproach among the
nations.
What then will be the response of our nation?
What will your individual response be?
