Opportunities - How You Can Help

There is an opportunity right now to pray for the people and crises of Manipur.

In the past decade, prayer among outsiders brought about many positive changes in terms of general attitude toward Christianity, openness to the Lord Jesus Christ and increase in opportunities for direct exposure to biblical Christianity. Coming out of a similar time of turmoil in the early 1990s, Manipur enjoyed a season of relative peace from about 1996 to 2000. This was a direct answer to the prayers of many. Several western mission teams entered Manipur during this time to evangelize and start numerous Christian fellowships throughout the valley. The most notable of these teams was Global Missions Fellowship (GMF), working only in conjunction with local, indigenous efforts.

Due to the violence in Manipur at this time, we recommend the following measures.

1. Learn all you can about this people and area rich in history and culture (see the list of Manipur websites )

2. Pray regularly for the violence and killing in Manipur to end

3. Pray for a new day to come when opportunities for direct involvement by outsiders in blessing the peoples of Manipur spiritually and economically may resume

4. Write to the government of India, the United Nations and your state senator, voicing your concern about what is happening in Manipur (see www.nic.in , www.un.org and www.senate.gov )

5. Get others involved in learning about and praying for the Meiteis and Manipur

6. Support Christian radio broadcasts into Manipur (see www.febc.org )

7. Support Manipuri Bible distribution in Manipur (see www.biblesfortheworld.org )

8. Support the Jesus Film Project in Manipur (see www.jesusfilm.org )

9. When government restrictions are lifted and the doors open again, join a group such as GMF to spread the light of Jesus Christ in Manipur (see www.gmf.org )
