Blow
out the Candles!
This summer, the original concept that became
Impact Media Ministries turns five. As we
approach this milestone, there is so much to
report. If you've read previous issues of this
newsletter, you might have noticed a new layout.
That is a sign of changes already taking place
with us.
About one year ago, we announced that we were no
longer IMM, but instead IMM 2. The '2' proved to
be cumbersome for e-mail and publication, so part
of the change process is that we're back to IMM.
Hooray for simplicity!
How have we managed to get through these first
five years with only a staff of one and yet still
be able to bless many ministries with over forty
high quality media projects? The answer is: Our
faithful supporters who have stood by us all
these years. A heartfelt THANK YOU to all our
dear supporters! You have been wonderful to us!
More than ever, we need your encouragement,
prayer and financial support as we embark on this
new chapter in the faith venture that is still
IMM. Hold on with us, the best is yet to come.
Same Name and LogoNew Focus
From Jim Au, IMM president and founder
In the spring of this year, I set aside several
weeks to intensely seek the Lord regarding the
future course of IMM. As a result, IMM has now
turned a corner in ministry purpose. In the past,
IMM was involved one hundred percent in serving
Christian missions, schools and ministries
through media production. As of this writing, we
are no longer a media service agency, but rather
an independent, nonprofit Christian media
producer. From here on, you will only hear about
projects that originate at IMM and no longer
about work done for other organizations. Why this
radical change? This redirection came about with
the new mission and vision our ministry has taken
on, effective last April.
A Voice to the Nation
The Lord has called us to a new mission: to
communicate relevant truth through film and media
with the goal of rekindling hope and vision for
our nation's future. Our country is still the
largest missions-sending country in the world.
Yet as the environment in which we're raising up
missionaries to travel to the far corners of the
earth, is our nation spiritually healthy? Is the
Church, the Body of Jesus Christ, healthy? Is our
society healthy? Without a blink, we have to say
no. So what then is the Lord calling us to do? We
are called to challenge and inspire people in our
country to hear the Lord's voice and know his
will for their lives, both at an individual level
and concerning the community, for families and
for the nation. This is similar to what some
people in the Bible like Isaiah and Jeremiah
spoke. Read Isaiah chapter 55 as an example of
the kind of proclamation we believe needs to ring
out clearly in our nation. Unique to our ministry
is that we do it with media. And we still believe
in being creative to get people's attention.
A New Vision for a New Millenium
What is the vision driving this change? To quote
our new vision statement:
Through our communications as an independent,
nonprofit Christian media organization, we
endeavor to play a part in shaping our nation's
future by instilling in people's minds a
favorable image of God, life, wholeness and
health, honesty, responsibility, family,
community and world mission. We endeavor to have
a positive influence on our society's values and
culture by taking up a visionary and prophetic
role that is lacking today. We envision ourselves
challenging and inspiring people to: Pursue a
knowledge of the truth, Achieve spiritual,
emotional and relational health, Become active
participants, not spectators, in overcoming
society's challenges, and Invest personally in
solving problems of national and global scope,
through creative synergy with others and wise use
of resources.
Changes To Watch for in the Future
IMM has changed! I'm personally thrilled about
the new direction we are taking by God's grace
and provision. Here are some things you may see
in the future. First, I've added film to the
lineup of media formats that IMM shall produce.
Should we be making movies that can speak to
people where they're at without requiring them to
step into a church building? Absolutely.
You've probably heard about DVD, the new video
disc format that is attempting to replace VHS
tape in the near future. I'm now sizing up a DVD
project which will address the Creation vs.
Evolution issue through music video and
interactive presentation, targeting mostly young
people. You probably also know that one can watch
movies on the Internet these days. Be sure that
we will be "streaming" our productions
into cyberspace so people across the globe will
have a chance to see and hear our work. This is a
glimpse of the creative ideas and concepts that
we will pursue for the purpose of calling our
nation back to God, to sensibility, to purpose,
and to wholeness and holiness. |
